As revealed earlier today, Void Rivals #9 will continue the series’ growing tradition of surprise Transformers appearances.

In the title’s May issue, the classic Autobot character Springer will make his first appearance in the Energon Universe. The following synopsis was given in Skybound’s press release:

‘In Void Rivals #9, Darak and Solila cling to life deep in the wasteland and find–SPRINGER?! It’s the first Energon Universe appearance of everyone’s favorite Triple-Changer Autobot!’

Who is Springer of the Transformers?

In previous incarnations of the Transformers, Springer is an Autobot and a triple-changer – that is, a Transformer who can change into three distinct forms. In fact, Springer is the first on-screen instance of a triple-changer in Transformers.

In Springer’s case, he has a humanoid form, a ground vehicle form and an air vehicle form (in this case, a car and a helicopter).

Additionally, Springer is a member of the Wreckers and often becomes leader of the team, depending on the continuity. The Wreckers are a squad of Autobots that don’t operate within the regular chain of command, functioning as something of a black-ops team. Whether Springer will be a member of the Wreckers in Void Rivals #9, or whether the Wreckers even exist yet in the Energon Universe, remains to be seen.
