The Final Avengers Story? ‘Avengers: Twilight’ Announced for NYCC 2023

Avengers Twilight Announcement from X, Twitter

If you were a fan of Zdarsky’s Justice League: Last Ride but wished he could do something similar over at Marvel, then you’re in luck – Marvel Comics have just announced a brand-new title called Avengers: Twilight that may very well scratch that itch.

Avengers (Creators), Assemble!

One of many announcements Marvel has made in the lead up to NYCC 2023, Avengers: Twilight is solicited as the product of storied creators Chip Zdarsky (Daredevil, Batman) and Daniel Acuña (Black Panther, Uncanny Avengers).

Since his run on Daredevil recently came to a close, fans have been wondering what Zdarsky’s next Marvel project would be – or if there’d even be one in the near future at all, given his Gotham-shaped commitments.

Similarly, it feels like a long time since we’ve had Daniel Acuña’s gorgeous artwork gracing the interior pages of our monthly comics. He’s recently begun producing covers for Benjamin Percy and Robert Gill’s X-Force run, as well as the recently debuted Avengers Inc. However, this will mark the first time since his collaboration with Ta-Nehisi Coates on Black Panther that Acuña’s work will have seen the inside of comic (outside of his contributions to Captain America #750 back in July).

I, for one, could not be more excited!

Commencing Rampant Speculation on Avengers: Twilight

Characteristic of these pre-NYCC 2023 announcements, Marvel is keeping remarkably tight lipped about what this series actually is.

As I alluded to in the opening though, my immediate thought is that this might pan out like some kind of companion piece to Zdarsky’s Justice League: Last Ride. In that, we join the Justice League in an alternative near-future where there’s divison between the team and secrets that need to be borne out. It’s an out of continuity story that plays with various elements of the DCU, and sports a classic lineup of team members (in this case, something resembling that of the early-2000s animated show).

It stands to reason that Avengers: Twilight might mirror this in some way. A relatively classic lineup of Avengers, taking on all the biggest hitters of the Marvel Universe, in one of their final bouts of heroism.

Of course, that’s just speculation. For more, we’ll have to wait until Marvel’s Next Big Thing Panel at NYCC 2023. When we learn something more, you’ll be the first to know!
