Victor Von Doom Faces Off Against the Devourer of Worlds in “Doom #1”

‘IN THE NEAR FUTURE…DOOM ALONE MUST SAVE THE MARVEL UNIVERSE!’

That’s the tagline for Marvel Comics’ newest announcement, an over-sized, one-shot issue titled Doom #1 (2024).

Brought to you by Jonathan Hickman (Ultimate Spider-Man, House of X / Powers of X) and Sanford Greene (Red Hood: The Hill, Justice League Annual, Bitter Root), this issue set Dr Doom on a collision course with one of Marvel’s biggest cosmic forces: Galactus!

Doom #1 (2024) sees the iron-faced villain journeying across the cosmos with Valeria Richard by his side. Together, they set out ‘to harness more power than any human has ever wielded before in order to try to stop Galactus from bringing about the death of the universe’.

However, despite Hickman being credited as the writer of this issue, Doom #1 originates from a story that Greene actually pitched. In the official press release, Hickman had this to say:

‘Sanford and I have been waiting to work together for quite a while, so when he told me that he’d come up with an amazing Doom story and he wanted me to help out, I jumped at the chance. It’s a giant-sized story about a giant-sized character and I can’t tell you how excited I am to get to write Doom again’

Jonathan Hickman & Sanford Greene Reveal the Final Fate of Doctor Doom

This will be the first time Hickman has written the main 616-universe Doom since Secret Wars (2016), and is an event undoubtedly welcomed by many. Marvel also promises that this sets up the ‘final fate’ of Victor Von Doom, though we know statements like that are rarely as simple as they seem in the realms of comics.

To see just how definitive an end it really is, we’ll have to wait to read Doom #1 (2024) – releasing both physically and digitally on 15th May 2024.
